Eliminating manual process in SAP payments stream

By: Laura Morrison & Derek Panzer

When you’re working with SAP, you know that there are a few areas where it falls short. One area is the credit card payment process. Delego has developed proprietary software that integrates the SAP system directly with the payment processor to provide a more streamlined order-to-cash process for credit card payments. There are several ways to accept a payment on an order: ecommerce, mail order, telephone order, through a customer service representative, or through mobile. From here you need to have that payment authorized in real time. It’s at this point in the process that things can become chaotic if not managed properly. Recently Delego was called into a company that wasn’t managing their payments flow properly. When an order was made, the credit card number would be written down on a piece of paper. They stored the order in a locked drawer until it was time to ship. There are a few issues with this scenario:

  1. This is not a PCI compliant method of processing a credit card – any company that is storing, transmitting, or processing credit card information is required to be PCI compliant,
  2. This method does not fit into the business’s ERP system for a seamless flow of information, finally,
  3. The method used doesn’t enable the company to be unified from its multiple shipping locations.

As experts in SAP payment processing, Delego helps customers implement strategies to manage their payments. We address the challenges of working with credit card payments when the business process and the credit card payment process conflict. Some example of areas where we help:

  • Credit card payments on Back orders & split Deliveries
  • Final sale amount at different then original order amount
  • Level II & III information need to be provided to customers
  • Manual reconciliation & posting of transaction in SAP
  • Storing of credit card information for later use
  • Recurring payment strategies for both standing orders and automated payment

Historically credit card payments were for the consumer, but there has been a significant shift in the B2B payments landscape where more companies who sell in the B2B space are leveraging electronic payments. By staying ahead of the curve and accepting the form of payment that your buyer wants to use, your company can retain customer satisfaction. The wave of change is happening now, we are moving away from the traditional forms of payment. Companies willing to ride the wave have a chance of being thought leaders within their market segment.
